Brief introduction of the investment-inviting project:
Blueberry Proanthocyanidin (OPC) low polymer production project
Ⅰ. Profile
This project is a high-tech organism industrialization project of Dandong Morningstar Blueberry Technology Development Co., Ltd. The project relies on the scientific and technological advantage of Institute of Biophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, takes the blueberry offered by Morningstar as the main raw material, and launches the blueberry OPC scale purification through a comprehensive utilization of many kinds of advanced biotechnologies. The project will not only provide channel for the deep processing of blueberry but also provide good industrialized platform for the development of other activity compositions of blueberry.
Ⅱ. Use of the product
Blueberry has abundant nutritive value, and according to report of Tufts University in America, among 40 kinds of vegetables and fruits with anti-oxidant effect, the anthocyanidin content of blueberry is the highest, most of which exists in the form of low polymer and glucoside, so it is highly absorbable, as well as readily crossing the blood-brain barrier, etc., to remove harmful free radicals and thus to delay the damage / aging course of cells. Studies have suggested its anti-oxidant performance is 50 times higher than that of vitamin E, 200 times higher than that of vitamin C and Anthocyanidin polymer-2 and polymer-3 can inhibit hydrogen peroxide by 40%, exhibiting obvious anti-effect. At present more than 80 types of diseases caused by free radicals, including heart disease, cancer and arthritis, etc., can be cured with the assistance of OPC which removes free radicals. Clinical research indicates that, people eating blueberry usually can strengthen their eyesight obviously and dispel eyes fatigue, nourish the skin, delay the aging of cerebral nerve, play a therapy effect on capillary disease caused by diabetes, strengthen the heart function and prevent senile dementia. The following products have found a good sale in the world: healthy food "YAKUO blueberry" produced by Japan Kansai YAKUO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to cure pseudomyopia and relieve visual fatigue, and the "Ifrarel" drug produced by French enterprise by utilizing 85% blueberry extraction, 10% VC and 5% carotene β to cure retina disease lesion caused by diabetes. The 25% anthocyanidin extraction has already been included in French pharmacopoeia. In addition, blueberry Anthocyanidin has been widely applied to such fields as food additive, industrial chemicals and cosmetics, etc., with a broad market space.
Ⅲ. Conditions of technology
The main components of blueberry are water soluble anthocyanidin, anthocyanidin-2 -- glucoside, anthocyanidin-3 -- xyloside, anthocyanidin-3 – galactoside, anthocyanidin-2 –- rhamnoside, delphinium-3 – rhamnoside, delphinium-5 –-glucoside, 3-O—blueberry proanthocyanidin, malvidin-3 and malvidin-5 – disaccharide and 3, 3-二-O-blueberry Proanthocyanidin, etc. Proanthocyanidin is the most important component among these compositions.
Proanthocyanidin (abbreviated as PC) is also called condensed tannins, the natural poly-phenolic compound extensively existing in plant kingdom. After heated in acid medium, some phenolic hydroxyl group of this kind of phenolic compound is oxidized into Chlorobenzoquinonyl and thus forms AnthoCyanidin, and such kind of phenolic compound is named Proanthocyanidin. PC is made mainly by polymerization of (+)-Catechin,C, (-)-Epicatechin,EC, (+)-Catechin-3-O-Gallate,CG and (-)-Epicatechin-3-O-Gallate, ECG in flavonol, as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 as follows.

Blueberry Proanthocyanidin has fine chemical characteristics and health care value, so its extraction technique becomes a key technology. Proanthocyanidin is easily to be reduced of vigor under the function of light, heat and oxidation, and be combined with biological macromolecules such as sugar / ester / protein, and it is highly polymeric and thus leads to the reduction of its vigor. Now the normal extraction process adopted at home is hard to obtain high purification OPC products. This project makes a comprehensive utilization of modern biological engineering technology to realize the scale production of high-quality low-polymer Proanthocyanidin, with the product’s purification degree reaching or surmounting the technical level of international similar products. Through the implementation of the project, not only high quality Proanthocyanidin product can be obtained, but also the products of high added value such as food/beverage/feed, etc. can be further developed from the extracted by-products and thus open the good technological platform for deep processing of other activity compositions of blueberry.
Ⅳ. Comparison between domestic and international like products
Through the implementation of this project, the content of Proanthocyanidin in the product can reach up to about 95%, mainly the low polymer under hexamer. The products of small amount are shown in the following Figs.

Ⅴ. The research and development capability of the project’s technical unit
Institute of Biophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences established in 1958 is the important research base of national life sciences. It has obtained world leading reach achievement in key life sciences fields such as the total artificial synthesis of bovine insulin and yeast alanine trna, decoration of protein functional gene and its quantitative relation with biological activity, insulin 3D structure and function research, etc. In the aspect of biological member's purified technology, the Institute has long-term research foundation and good apparatus condition, and relevant personnel have abundant practical experience. The project’s technology digesting problem is under charge of Institute of Biophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences which will cooperate with the producing unit to debug the production line in order to produce acceptable products.
Ⅵ. Production program
To realize the production program of annual purification of about 2,000 tons of blueberry, purification of 4,000 kilograms of OPC products of low polymerization degree with the Proanthocyanidin content not less than 95%.
Ⅶ. Gross investment of the project
The planed gross investment of the project is 50 million Yuan, and the investment-inviting targets are mainly famous enterprises in health products industry and medical industry.
